Top 5 Wishes For My Son

Merry Christmas! Yes, it’s Christmas today and looking at social media posts, I saw a lot of ‘What’s your wish?’ or ‘What do you want to receive?’ Instead of asking that to myself, I wrote the top 5 wishes I have for my son when he grows up and can decide for himself.

That he accepts Jesus as his Lord and Savior

Accepting Jesus as his Lord and savior is a guarantee that he will be saved and have eternal life in Heaven. Isn’t this the best wish one could ever have for their children?

Not good deeds, not good words, and not just going to church will save us. John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Be Kind and Loving

So many bad things are happening. Even so, I believe that we will have a better world if we teach our children to be kind and loving.

Here’s a good read from Making Caring Common of Harvard Graduate School of Education: 7 Tips for Raising Caring Kids (Click the link for their tips on how to put the below guideposts into action).

  • Develop caring, loving relationships with your kids
  • Be a strong moral role model and mentor.
  • Make caring for others a priority and set high ethical expectations.
  • Provide opportunities for children to practice caring and gratitude.
  • Expand your child’s circle of concern.
  • Promote children’s ability to be ethical thinkers and positive change-makers in their communities.
  • Help children develop self-control and manage feelings effectively.

To not obsess about having material things to be happy

Yes, there are material things that are essential for us to live. But, obsessing in having more than what we need will never be the answer to happiness and contentment. This is also a reminder to myself especially at times when I want something that is not really necessary but nice to have.
1 Timothy 6:6-12

To have the best circle of friends

Friends will come and go, I know, I’ve lost so many. But, I wish that my son finds the best ones that would influence him to be a better person and who he can still call friends when he’s old.

To be responsible and diligent

I may have failed to practice those attitudes all the time but, definitely, I wish that my son would be responsible and diligent in everything that he will do when he grows up.

These are just the top wishes that I have for my son and I have a lot more. I pray that God would give us wisdom and guide us on how to raise our son properly and instill in him good values that will mold him to be a good person.

How about you? If you are a parent, what’s your wish for your kids?
